I finally received my first paycheck from St. Charles Pharma. I was supposed to be paid on the 1st of July but I didn’t get the check until the 10th. I thought maybe I had been fired and they had forgotten to tell me. I was reminded of the movie “Office Space” where the guy had been taken off the payroll and they didn’t tell him. “Excuse me, but I did not receive my paycheck.”
The first check at a new job is generally a live check, which was the case with this one. So you can imagine my concern when the check didn’t come within a week’s time. I guess the problem was that the mail coming out of New Orleans is still really, really slow since the hurricane. Our corporate headquarters are located there and that is where the company distributing our paychecks sends them. They then have to be forwarded on to us here in Florida.
I was beginning to wonder if I was going to get paid at this new job. I thought maybe I had misunderstood the offer I had accepted. I thought maybe in small print it had said, “Employee agrees to work a minimum of 8 hours a day, with possible additional weekend hours for a salary no greater than $0 per year.” I like the job real well, but not well enough that I would work for free! But everything is fine now. I’ve been paid! And since this check got here so late. I will get paid again this week. Yea! And this little problem shouldn’t be an issue anymore because from now on my checks shouldn’t be live checks.
Now if this company would just determine their paid vacation/sick day and holiday policy. Or was this part of my contract? “The employee shall be granted no paid vacation or sick days nor will he be paid for any holidays, National or otherwise. In addition, any hours missed for any reason will be made up between the hours of 3-6am on Saturdays.” ND
