We are now at 17 weeks in the pregnancy. Here is some interesting information about the development at this point (from smartmomma.com):
By week 17, the baby weighs about 5 ounces and is 5 inches long, crown to rump. The head is starting to look more proportional to the body, and it can hold its head more erect. The skeleton, which at first was a rubbery consistency, is starting to harden to bone, and it can move its joints quite well. Pads are beginning to form on the little fingertips and toes, and it is not far off from developing fingerprints.
Although the eyelids are still fused together, its eyes have moved from the side of his head to the front, and are facing forward now. Its sense of hearing is now developing, and it is consumed with listening to the sounds of the mother’s heartbeat.
