Halloween 2011
Well, the year is flying by. Halloween has already passed. Thanksgiving and Christmas are quickly approaching. The holidays always provide ample opportunities for blogging. Here are some pictures from Halloween.
One Sunday after church we decided to stop by the Pumpkin Patch that they have every year at Trinity United Methodist where we attend. We were getting ready to leave with plans to come back later to get our pumpkins and get some pictures when the mom of one of Grant’s Sunday School classmates offered to take a picture of Grant and email it to us. We were able to get the above picture of Grant. A special thanks to Melody, whom Grant calls “the green lady” because she was wearing a green dress the first time he met her, for the use of her camera.
For this year’s pumpkin carving we let Grant help us figure out the design. We asked him what shape of eyes, nose and mouth he wanted and we drew it on. I cut the top off of the pumpkin and then Grant and Carol went to work pulling out “the gunk”. After they were done, I went to work trying not to cut myself while carving the pumpkin.
Trinity has a special Halloween event every year which is open to the public. They do a Trunk and Treat event where members of the church decorate the trunks of their cars and give out candy. This year the event was on Sunday night so we were able able to go. Grant was given a couple of options for a costume and he decided on Elmo. Grant got through about half of the cars before he needed to stop and enjoy some of the candy he had collected.
After we got past all of the trunks we walked over to another part of the festivities and ran into Linda and Taylor Batten. As we joined them on a step of a sidewalk, Grant decided he needed another of his favorite candies – a sucker.
Pleeeeeeeaaaase!
After finishing up that sucker we got in line for the petting zoo that was setup on the church’s property. Grant and I enjoyed touching the sheep, goats and a bunny.
When we got home I tried to get Grant to pose in his costume. He finally decided that would be ok, as long as had his candy bucket.
On Halloween day, Carol dressed him up in one of his other costume options – a handyman, complete with a tool belt. That evening, after it got dark, Grant and I went trick or treating around our neighborhood and replenished his stock of candy, which was beginning to run low.
The funniest part of the evening, for me, was when the tool belt became a bit too heavy for Grant’s pants and they began to sag. I didn’t realize the extent of the problem until Grant told me to stop walking and I asked him why without looking down. His response was, “because my pants fell down”. I quickly looked down and realized that the tool belt must have been tucked into both his pants and underwear because both were down around his ankles (not pictured). I pulled up everything and he was very matter-of-fact in his next comment – “I think Dada should hold the tool belt now.”
