Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin died at age 44 from a stingray. While swimming with a stringray during the filming of a documentary the animal felt threatened and reacted by using its barb, which pierced Irwin’s heart. It is a sad day for those of us that are animal lovers and enjoy watching television shows dedicated to them. Although the Crocodile Hunter was known more for his risk taking he was truly an animal lover and leader in animal conservation. I personally enjoyed watching him wrestle with crocodiles and poisonous snakes. And although the words, “what an idiot!” exited my mouth often while watching him on Animal Planet, I respected his knowledge and true love of the animals he talked about. He ran a very successful zoo in Australia and had his own fund set up for animal conservation, called Wildlife Warriors. I personally will miss seeing him in new television shows and feel terrible for his family. He leaves behind his wife Terri and two children, age 8 and 3. Read this for more information. ND
