Fall Break Trip: South Dakota

Carol found a cabin to rent in Canton, South Dakota, so we took a kayak and headed north for Fall Break. Luckily the weather was pretty good and the property was right next to a pumpkin patch, which the family enjoyed. The rental also had a hot tub, which was used several times – even in the cold evenings. We took a day trip up to Sioux Falls and spent the day exploring Falls Park.

Halloween

For Halloween, Grant was an inflatable tube dancing guy, like you would see at a car dealership, and Jenna was Spider Woman. They enjoyed trick or treating around the neighborhood. They also enjoyed the party that the folks at horse therapy put on, which included painting a horse, bobbing for apples, and pony cart rides.

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving was spent at Nate’s parent’s house and everyone enjoyed the time together.

Christmas Decorations

Decorating for Christmas inside and outside the house is a tradition for us. This year, since the RV was parked in our driveway, we decorated it with string lights.

Jenna’s 12th Birthday

Jenna celebrated her 12th birthday in 2024. We did gifts and cake as a family and then later on hosted some other family members for a second party. Nate’s Mom also has a December birthday, so the second part was for her as well and included Nate’s Aunt and Uncle that live here in town.

Zoo Lights

We made our annual trip to the Lincoln Zoo to take in the Zoo Lights.

Christmas Family Photo

We took a family photo by the Christmas tree again this year. With dogs, it always makes it just a bit more challenging to get a good photo. Here are our attempts.

Christmas

Christmas 2024 consisted of Christmas Eve at home as a family. Christmas morning was spent opening presents followed by a fancy Christmas lunch of brisket. After lunch, Nate’s parents came over to exchange gifts and have dinner. Then the 6 of us went and drove through a Christmas light display before saying goodbye.
