It is now mid-January and I am just now finding the time to post about our Christmas travels. I guess I am now as bad as my friend, and fellow blogger, Tom. He authors a blog entitled “Not too bad” and typically is late in his posting as well. He is typically behind on his posting because he is a perfectionist when it comes to his writings and the awesome videos that he puts into his posts. My excuse is not nearly as good. I just didn’t make time for it. However, in the style of “Not too bad”, I am going to include more text in this set of posts, rather than just photos and videos.
A late Christmas blog entry is better than not at all, so here I go. I am going to divide my Christmas post into two sections, because that is how our trip back to the Midwest was divided. We spent part of our vacation in Kansas at Mom Reid’s house and the other half of the trip was divided between my parents’ house and my grandma’s house in Nebraska. So Part 1 of my Christmas blogging will be of our time in Lawrence, KS.
We arrived in Lawrence, KS to find that the weather was quite a bit cooler than what we had left in Florida. Luckily, Mom Reid had hats and gloves waiting for us.
Grant didn’t seem to mind the colder weather. In fact, he seemed to really enjoy bundling up and going for walks with Nana outside around the neighborhood.
The Friday night that we were there was the first chance that Grant had to see his cousins in over a year. His 16 year old cousin Alyssa drove over and brought 12 year old Mason with her (I can’t believe how old they are getting!). Grant had a great time playing with his cousins.
On Saturday we headed over to Carol’s sister’s place for lunch. Grant enjoyed going up and down the steps to their basement and opening and closing all of the kitchen cabinets. He also enjoyed playing in a fort that was created in the basement with blankets.
On Sunday the gang all came over to Nana’s house for Christmas presents and dinner. While dinner was being prepared, Grant and I played tackle football.
After playing a while, we enjoyed a great Christmas dinner.
And then the present opening began.
Then, of course, we had to play with the new presents.
Then we tried to get a picture of Grant with the cousins. It took three adults with cameras rolling. And I think we each got about one decent picture. This is mine.
The next day we decided to take Grant bowling for the first time. He likes balls and he likes to knock things over so we thought it would be perfect for him. We were wrong. He did not like the noise involved with the whole thing. We played one game and then went to the KU Bookstore, where he had much more fun.
After 6 days in Kansas, and with a potential snowstorm approaching, we left for Nebraska on Tuesday after lunch. Unfortunately the timing of our trip meant that we missed seeing Carol’s other sister and her husband from Colorado. We hope to see them next trip.
I'm way late in making a comment about this but, as you said… "Better late than never."
Great post… I like how you showed so many pictures in your description. Looks like you had a great time.
