Carol and I recently went to a local zoo. It is a teaching zoo located on the campus of Santa Fe Community College. They have a program there that prepares students to work in a zoo handling animals. It isn’t a large zoo, but it has some nice animals. They had a reptile building with snakes (several poisonous species), a pond with a lot of turtles, and quite a few outdoor cages containing the animals seen above and many others. It was neat because we were able to be a lot closer to the cages then you would be at a big zoo. It is a guided tour only and the tour guides are students so it is kind of neat to see what they are learning. If you are ever in Gainesville, it is worth a visit.
