July 2020
Flower Garden
Some of the flowers in the garden started looking very pretty in July.
Nate Fishing with his Dad
Dad has a boat that is large enough that two people can be more than 6 feet away from each other. So we decided to go fishing together at a lake a few miles south of Beatrice, where Mom and Dad live. We drove separately and wore our masks the whole time to keep each other safe. It was nice to spend a few hours chatting in the boat. Dad caught the only fish and I never even got a bite, but it was still a good time. It was a beautiful night and the water was very calm.
Another Lost Tooth
Jenna got more money from the Tooth Fairy.
July 4th
We celebrated July 4th at home as just the four of us. We did make a compilation of videos taken of our fireworks, compliments of Grant.
Pictures of Daisy by Grant
Grant loves to take pictures of our dog. And he gets some really good images.

Goat Yoga
Carol was able to attend a socially-distanced goat yoga class. She enjoyed doing yoga outside in the company of some very cute goats.
Family Picnic and Fishing
We decided to go to a lake not too far from our house and have a picnic and try a little fishing as a family. Not a fish was caught, but we had a nice time out in nature anyway.
Garden in Bloom
The flower garden really started taking off as the summer went by.
Family Outing to Eugene T. Mahoney State Park
We took the dog and drove over to Mahoney State Park for a picnic and some hiking. We were able to space ourselves out away from other folks that were also there enjoying the sunshine and scenery.

September 2020
Carol’s Trip to Lawrence, KS
Since we continue to follow recommendations on social distancing, we felt it was safe for Carol to visit her family in Lawrence, KS for a weekend. She enjoyed getting away for a bit. And got to see some alpacas.
Dog Cuddles
Our dog, Daisy, loves to cuddle with us. And who could say no to such a cutie?!
Holmes Lake Hiking
It is nice to have a lake in town that we can drive over to and do some hiking at a moment’s notice. Daisy always enjoys it too.
Nate’s Unexpected Surgery
Years ago I had an accident which cost me the natural lens of my right eye. Years later, I got a synthetic lens implanted in my eye that allowed me to see again. I woke up one morning in September and knew that something was seriously wrong with my eye. There was a dark line down the middle of my eye and everything was clear on one side of the line and blurry on the other. It looked like a curtain and I feared that my retina was detaching. Carol immediately called my eye doctor and they got me right in. By the time that I got into the office, my vision was completely blurry in that eye. They found that instead of a detached retina, my lens implant had come loose and was floating around in my eye. They said I needed to have emergency surgery to re-attach the lens before it floated into the back of my eye where retrieving it would be difficult. They sent me immediately over to the surgical center next door where I checked in. After waiting for several hours, they took me back and prepped me for surgery. They told me that they needed me to be awake for the surgery, but they would give me something to help me relax. Whatever they gave me was not strong enough! So while I kept my double cloth masks on, they covered me with a surgical sheet so that just my right eye was exposed. The surgeon and support staff tried to keep me calm for the nearly two hour surgery. Finally, the surgery was over and they called Carol to come pick me up. By the next day, I could tell that my vision had been restored. And after several follow-up appointments, I was cleared to resume normal activities. The surgery to re-attach the lens was actually a much easier surgery than a detached retina would have been, so if I had to have an emergency surgery this was the one to have. I looked like I had been in a fist fight for a couple of weeks, but after that, no one would be able to tell that I had surgery.
