Keys Trip – November 2013
We spent Thanksgiving in the Keys this year with Nana. We weren’t sure if we were going to make it because Grant came down with an ear infection the day before we were planning on leaving, and Jenna was catching a cold. Luckily, with a quick trip to the doctor, they were able to get Grant on a fast-acting prescription and he started feeling better quickly. Instead of having to cancel our trip, we just postponed the departure date by a day, and hoped Jenna wouldn’t get much worse.
As we drove down to the keys, we could tell that a storm was following us and after we got there and finally climbed into bed, the thunderstorm broke. There was quite a display of lightning coming in the windows and the thunder was, well, thunderous. Luckily, once the kids were asleep they slept right through the worst of the storm.
It remained cloudy and cool the next couple of days, but by the end of our time there the weather had become nicer and we were able to go on a short boat ride and Grant was able to swim in the canal behind Nana’s house. Speaking of the canal, one of the trip highlights for me was seeing a manatee for the first time. It swam into Nana’s canal, and we gave it a drink of water from the garden hose.
We really enjoyed spending some time with Nana and getting to meet some of her friends, including Bill. Bill was responsible for the fish and lobster that we were fortunate enough to enjoy during meals on our trip. Bill went out on his boat the morning we were leaving and sent us home with a bag full of lobster and fish from his freezer (Now he has an excuse to go fishing again because he has room in his freezer!).
Even though the weather wasn’t what we expected and we were concerned that Grant would get worse or Jenna’s cold would turn into an infection, we had a really great trip. The kids were feeling much better by the end, and Grant was thrilled to be there at “Nana’s Florida house”. Here are some pictures of the trip and a video compilation from our last couple of days in the Keys.

Family, it was so much fun to have you visit “my Florida house”. Glad the weather turned a bit better before you had to leave! I loved all the photos and videos of our activities. Good job, Nate!
