Lots of Socks
March 21st was World Down Syndrome Day and as you may recall, I celebrated the day by participating in Lots of Socks. My brother and I shared two pairs of socks with each of us wearing a mismatching set. Interestingly, we unknowingly wore the same sock on our left and right feet.
I mentioned what I planned on doing to family, friends and coworkers and was moved by how many people joined me in either wearing mismatching, brightly colored, or different socks. I also had several coworkers pull their matching socks over their pant legs after realizing they forgot to wear their bright socks. Here are some pictures I took or received from participants; there were many other participants from whom I was not able to get a photo.
Thanks to everyone who joined me this year. Let’s make it an annual event!

This was one of the greatest events I’ve done. Everyone asked about it. Next year lets have a few talking points so when people ask about the socks we have really solid answers. Maybe some stats, websites, etc. Lets also raise money and get other people to buy the socks prior. That would be fun. I think lots of people would love to do that. Then take pics.
Sounds good! There are several organizations that are involved in research into cognitive improvements, etc for Down syndrome persons that we could raise money for. I am also going to try to find a bunch of cheap colorful socks throughout the next year and have a bucket of socks available at my work for all the people who intended to participate but forgot their socks the morning of the event.
